More about Marble
Calcium and magnesium carbonate make Marble, a metamorphic rock that’s a popular building material known for its durability and variety of colours.
Marble’s formation
When limestone or dolomite is subjected to high heat and pressure over hundreds of years, Marble is formed. The pressure and heat compact the material into dense blocks which gives the resulting Marble reflecting veins created by fragmented minerals.
Marble’s properties
Marble is very hard and wear resistant. It’s a good heat conductor so it usually feels cool to the touch, and it’s hypoallergenic so it doesn’t collect dust or allergens.
Marble’s uses
Architecture, statues, and worktops use Marble. Also, its naturally white form is used to make “whiting,” a white powder that’s used as a pigment in paint, paper, and other products
Marble’s colour
Marble is usually white, but can also be black, grey, pink, red, and more. Its origin of extraction determines Marble’s colour, with the most famous and luxurious marbles coming from Tuscany, Italy.
